NASA is please to announce that we have successfully submitted over 600 dogs to the CDHPR at UKC. It has been a long and tedious process to enter all the pedigrees but we are very proud of our work and very excited for all of you that have submitted your dogs. CDHPR is currently taking all the dogs we entered and putting them into their database; once this is complete, they will start sending out all of you your welcome packets. These packets will include information about CDHPR and the option to send them any additional details you may want on file for your dogs (i.e. OFAs, CERFs, titles). Once you fill that information out and return it to the CDHPR, they will then send you the official registration certificate for each of the dogs you entered. If you have any questions regarding this process, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the board members.

DNA Process – Now that we have entered into the CDHPR at UKC, we will all need to start thinking about the DNA process for our dogs. CDHPR requires that ALL breeding dogs have their DNA profiles done. You do not have to DNA your dog until you decide to breed the dog however. You also do not have to DNA a litter of puppies unless you want to breed a puppy down the road. You can then either DNA the puppy while it is young or wait until you are ready to breed that dog. The DNA profile is available through the CDHPR. CDHPR will only accept the DNA profile done by their lab so even if you have done your profiles with another lab, it will need to be redone through the CDHPR approved lab. For those of you who may have AKC dogs and have done their profiles through AKC, those ARE accepted by the CDHPR/UKC as they both use the same lab. For those of you who need to DNA your dog, the form is available on the CDHPR website. The cost is $4/kit and $45/dog. The test only needs to be done once on a dog and will then be recorded. There can be at time, inconclusive tests and if that happens, you have two more times to repeat the test before having to pay another fee. The test consists of a cheek swab. UKC/CDHPR encourages all breeders to get this test done ideally before they breed the dog or shortly their after. You can still go back and do the DNA test after you have had the litter but often times, it takes longer then if there are inconclusive tests so the CDHPR recommends testing proactively rather than reactively. We very much encourage all of you who have submitted dogs to start this process so we can all start registering litters with our new breed. The more active we are while in the CDHPR, the better for our breed and the better for our request to move into full UKC recognition; when the time comes.

NASA Contest…NASA is currently hosting a photo contest for all our members. We are going to be replacing the photos on the CDHPR website for our breed standard and are asking our breeders to submit their photos. Once we receive the photos, the board will then vote on 4 pictures to be posted up on the CDHPR website as our breed’s example. We will be accepting dogs with tails as well because that is how the dogs are represented in other countries. If you are interested in submitting a photo, please email it to sarah@mydreamaussies.com no later than October 31, 2009. We look forward to seeing what you have to share with us.

Calling all committee members…NASA is looking for members who may be interested in joining some of our committees. We will have several committees to work on so if you are interested, please feel free to contact any board member regarding that. If you have any committee ideas; also please feel free to submit those as well. We want very much to make this a member driven club and ask for as much input and activity as possible.

Looking to join NASA??? Come along on the journey of our new and upcoming breed, the North American Shepherd. Our club will be expanding as our journey continues and we are always looking for new members. The club will be hosting events, contests, education seminars, and offering a blue ribbon breeding program as well. If you haven’t already joined our club, please feel free to print out our membership formand send it in.
