SUBJ: Appreciation
Dear Lynn,
I want to publicly thank
you for all you have done to make the founder of our breed, the late
Doris Cordova's dreams of full breed status for our breed come true.
No one has played a more significant role in making this happen. As
this process has moved along things seemed to have dropped into my
lap out of the sky, as if Doris herself had assigned the angels to
help her guide us from her home in heaven. Thanks to your efforts
our breed is now in development at the 2nd largest registry and we
believe AKC recognition will follow.
Your love for the Australian Shepherd breed fueled your study into
our breed, which seems to have been the beginning of a love affair
between you and the North American Shepherd breed. I too had fallen
into the "variety zealot" trap until you presented me with a
document that the mini clubs seem to have skillfully hidden for many
years. This document clearly stated the original purpose planned for
this breed by its founder was "breed status". Since you presented me
with that document, every single document I have tirelessly
unearthed since indicates that the first 28 years (1968 until 1995)
of our breed's development/registration was 100% "breed status"
oriented. It was not until the infamous "oops" (we now call it as
nothing fits it better) at AKC that the "variety zealots" were
birthed after 1995. I came into this breed after that time so
therefore was once an unfortunate victim of that falsehood. Around
1995 our breed's fanciers spotted our studs in the AKC Australian
Shepherd pedigrees and quickly changed the course of our breed to
become a "variety" of the Australian Shepherd. No one seemed to have
cared or even researched why our studs were there until our club did
so last year. Evidence was clear that something had run amok when
the AKC Australian Shepherd breed's registry was filling up with
12/13 inch toy size "Aussies", yet ASCA's registry had none of these
as you Lynn pointed out early on to me. Interestingly, the 13 inch
size was Doris' favorite so her breed was obviously commingled in,
but I'll always remain amazed that no one cared how or why. It was
as though our breed fanciers had on blinders. Once this fancier's
blinders came off it was full steam ahead for me with nothing but
the well hidden truths of our breed thrusting me forward with huge
momentum ever since.
We now know how the "oops" happened and consequently the UKC
registry's CDHPR registry has now recognized our breed. At this time
our club has zero plans of ever releasing those documents out of the
hands of this club's current leadership, as they have only been
given to those that matter associated with the "oops" happening. The
only others that have it are 3 people within our core group who I
believe love the breed enough to keep our documentation close to the
vest and let the results of that documentation speak for itself.
Thanks again, Lynn, as you have truly been a dear friend to our
beloved breed. I call those who helped me with this undertaking the
"Doris Cordova Angels" because thanks to them the breed is now back
on track after taking a 13 year hiatus (1995 to 2008). We at this
club have obviously moved beyond those 13 years, as we celebrated
our breed's 40th birthday with the grand gift of breed recognition
in 2008. I appreciate your sharing of your copyrighted truths of our
breed in your well documented and factual style for our website. You
were this breed's first "Doris Cordova Angel" and many have since
followed behind you.
